MOVEMENT CRIMINALIZATION
The criminalization of the indigenous movement is a weapon that has been constantly used by big landowners in league with the police and the judiciary to weaken and try to neutralize the Tupinamb[a struggle for their territory. Constant threats and accusations are made, mainly due to the practice of `retomadas` (retake), with the intention to brand the indigenous movement as criminal.
Today, being a leader of a people is to be criminal. `Retomar` (retake) our Traditional Territory since the state does not fulfill its commitment, became possessory plundering, to act collectively (traditional practice of all indigenous people) became conspiracy, and fight for our rights denied by the Brazilian State became arbitrary exercise of own reasons… we are a warrior people … We have our tradition and our different way of being and acting and want to be respected as such.
